The 100-years Birthday Celebration Concert will take place on february 21st, 2009 at 16.00 o'clock in the Chamber Music Hall of Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences.
The Finals of the Competition will take place on February 25th, 2009 at 19.00 o'clock in Jyväskylä's Theatre

  Rules  

I
The Foundation of the Central Finland Conservatory of Music, the School of Cultural Studies of the Jyväskylä Polytechnic and Jyväskylä Sinfonia organize a tenor competition to take place in Jyväskylä from 22nd to the 25th February 2009. The prizes of the competition are provided by the fund established by Vilho Kekkonen, Dip. Mus.

Tenors from the member countries of the European Union, who have not reached the age of 35 by the beginning of the competition, can take part therein.

III
The competition has one category and it will be carried out in two rounds. The participants in the first round will be selected on the basis of an audiotape eliminatory. The performances in this tape, as well as that in the first round, will have piano accompaniment. The finalists will perform as soloists with the Jyväskylä Symphony.

IV
A pre-selection jury will chose the contestants for the first round on the basis of the audiotapes received. The competition proper will be judged by a jury of four members on the basis of ratified rules and regulations.

V
The enclosed application form, together with the audiotape, must reach the competition office no later than January 16 th , 2009. Either Mini-Disc or DAT-recordings are suggested for the audiotape, although video recordings will also be accepted.

VI
The contestants are personally responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses as well as those of their accompanists. Jyväskylä Polytechnic can also provide free of charge accompanist service. Contestants are required to send copies of theirs scores in their performance keys well in advance.

VII
Competition Repertoire
The repertoire of the competition consists of opera arias, concert arias and Lied. The purpose of the competition is to seek representatives of the "Bel Canto"-genre. Those selected for the finals may not perform the same repertoire as in the preliminary rounds.

VIII
The prizes of the competition are as follows:
I prize 7.500 euros
II prize 4.500 euros
III prize 3.500 euros
It is at the jury's discretion to award the prizes otherwise. The contestants selected for the finals will receive an honorary diploma signed by the competition jury.

IX
The competition events will be open to the public. The performances can be recorded, broadcast or televised with the permission of the organisers.

X
The organisers reserve all the rights for possible, necessary changes.
